Keeping families on the move with flexible solutions

A pushchair that can be converted from a double to two singles is being steered towards the market place thanks to Proof of Concept funding.

Connex Pushchair Solutions, based in Seaton Delaval, is aimed at parents of twins or children of similar ages.

Rather than investing in three pushchairs – a double and two singles – families can buy one modular chair that can be attached or detached as required.

Using a £60,000 POC investment, company founder Donna Naseby is conducting market research to gauge demand for this unique design.

She said: “With the average mother waiting less than two years between her first and second child, and just a year between her second and third, there is a real need for modular pushchairs.

“Current in-line chairs, where one child sits behind the other, can’t be broken down into two individual units, and generally mean that the rear child can’t see very well.

“Although there have been other ideas for clips and straps to join two single chairs together, they all sacrifice steering ability, ease of storage or stability.

“My design makes the dual unit no wider than the singles, and just as manoeuvrable.

“Since receiving the POC investment, I’ve entered talks with an engineering company to research and refine the product and bring it on to the market.”
